Welcome Letter

Welcome, new and returning swimmers & parents! I am Chris Olthouse, Coach and would like to introduce Alli Gardner, my new Assit. Coach this summer!! I am excited to work Alli, as she comes from swimming stock too… 4yr letterman for Buckeye Bullfrogs, lifeguard and swim instructor! We have some great ideas for new training tools & are working to refurbish the ones we have.  We look forward to working with all of you & want everyone to do their best, but most of all, to have fun and love what your doing!!

We will have three practice times, and will move to 2hr practices closer to finals. We please ask the swimmers to be 15 min early; to stretch and warm up (wake up), before practice begins @ scheduled time. Here is the break down….

6:30AM - Swimmer should know and be able to perform ALL the competitive strokes, starts, & flip turns with excellent technique, only needing some fine tuning. That includes butterfly  And should be able to swim at least 200yd (8 laps) using freestyle or breaststroke without stopping.

8:00AM - Swimmer should be able to do with proper form, two laps (50 yds) of each, freestyle and backstroke, without stopping at any time. We will evaluate each swimmer within 1st couple days, to determine if they should move up to 6:30 practice.

9:00AM - If you are a first time swimmer, or beginner with some knowledge of strokes, I will ask you to swim for us. You should be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) or at least make the attempt. And demonstrate a tummy float for three seconds, then roll to a back float for ten seconds. We will evaluate 1st couple days to determine if anyone should move up to the 8am practice.

We will be ordering suits as soon as possible, as to receive them before 1st meet. We will be taking measurements during sign ups so we order the correct size the 1st time. As well as t-shirts, if possible.  We have a lot to cover first week, including time trials, so please be on time & ready to go so we can make the most of the time we have. As a reminder to the parents and swimmers, chlorine and food do NOT mix in little tummies. Please try to eat a minimal amount of food before practice. A good dinner the night before and wait till after practice to eat, or minimal food before hand, would be the safest thing to do.

Please feel free to contact/talk to us about your child’s progress or concerns you may have at any time.

The meet schedule will have minor changes due conflicts/events & will have final schedule 1st day of practice. Thank you!
